The Richard M. Flynn Power Plant

Supplying electricity to the Long Island area since 1994, the Richard M. Flynn Power Plant was built by the New York Power Authority.

Its primary source of energy is natural gas.

The NYPA is the largest public electricity supplier across the United States. Since the Flynn plant was built, NYPA has made a great investment on modernizing the plant and keeping it up to date.

In the cutting edge of green energy production, the Richard M. Flynn plant has become famous for its "combined-cycle" system, which allows two generators to feed from a single supply of fuel, thus saving natural resources and minimizing pollution and waste. The system is also known for its long-standing reliability.

Asbestos Risks at Power Plants

Power plants usually contain asbestos, due to their superior insulation needs and the mineral´s heat-proof qualities. People formerly employed at power plants may be at risk of developing an asbestos-related illness.

Mesothelioma, a malignant form of cancer, lung cancer, and asbestosis can all be caused by asbestos exposure. Since these conditions may remain latent for 10-50 years, anyone having worked at power plants may be at risk of developing them.

If you have been employed at a power plant, you and your direct family might be at risk, as asbestos fibers can be carried home in clothing and shoes. If you fall into this category, you should immediately seek medical and legal advice.
